Ceiling

I like to
sit in
my chair
and stare
at the ceiling,
while I smoke
some weed
and wonder why
I haven’t found
any meaning
in my life
yet.
I wonder if
I ever will,
or if it’s
all just
a useless
waste of
time.
Maybe.
But it’s not
like I have
anything else
going on.
So I
might
as well
just sit here
and waste away
too.
I think
I’ll smoke
another
joint.

  3. You don’t “find” meaning. You “create” meaning. So it appears you’re looking in the wrong direction. The answer is not on the ceiling.

  4. Also, if you suddenly broke your leg your life would have meaning: to end the excruciating pain and walk again. So don’t wait for that to happen.

  16. Love the song, Flowers on the Wall. Also your poem. I believe one day you will find meaning for your life. You are on the way when you sit and think about it. For me, the meaning of life is to love God and all people. This is almost a full-time job, but it is a job I enjoy.

  17. Your writing feels like you are the purveyor of a tragic love story who doesn’t likely want to admit it. Might that be true?
